MEHER BABA CENTER OF THE TWIN CITIES
BOARD MEETING - FEBRUARY 12, 2006
The February 12, 2006 Board Meeting was held at the home of DJ Johnston. Attending the meeting were Sandy Schwanz, Pat Cook, Steve Cochrane, Karen Plante, Rogier Gregoire, DJ Johnston, Leah Johnston, and Trevor Johnston. Sandra Self was absent.
The Minutes of the last Board meeting were read, and pending a few slight revisions, approved. The Treasurer's Report was read and approved.
A discussion of the Fall Sahavas took place. Options were given for the gathering as follows: Dunrovin on October 13-15, 2006. Their facility has single room accomodations for 30 people, and a cabin about a mile away that accomodates an additional 8 people. Two nights, plus all meals, brings the cost to $175.00 per person. One overnight at Dunrovin costs $120.00 per person.
The second choice was Mount Olivet on October 21-22, 2006. The accomodations there are dorm style for 36 people, with motel-style rooms for an additional 12 people. The cost for a Saturday night sleepover and all meals is $93 per person.
Rogier suggested getting feedback from the Baba community before we made any final decisions, and Pat agreed to send a group email to discuss the options. One or two-night Sahavas, at Dunrovin or Mount Olivet.
Pat also checked into Dunrovin for 2007, and aside from the first week of October 2007, the rest of the calendar was wide open there.
Conversation turned to the newsletter. Judy Stone Nunnely is working on it, and everyone's submissions have been turned in at this point.
Baba's birthday weekend plans were discussed. Cathy Riley wants us to rehearse (ala chorale style) so Pat suggested the possibility of gathering at his house on Saturday, February 25th before we meet at Krishna and Ratna's house for a practice session, around 11:30 AM. This did not generate much enthusiasm, but we all smiled at him in a very loving way.
The Spring Event was discussed. It is set for April 8, 2006 at Macalester College in the John B. Davis Lecture Hall, located in the new campus center on the corner of Snelling and Grand Avenues in Saint Paul. The program will run from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Set-up begins at 2:00 PM. It was decided that Leah will give an opening presentation, then the film - God in Human Form - will be shown. After the film, a panel - consisting of Steve Cochrane, Rogier Gregoire, Karen Plante, and Pat Cook - will take the stage. Leah will briefly introduce the panel members and then we will take questions from the audience. Members of the panel agreed to submit short biographies via email to Leah.
The garage sale was discussed. The idea of holding the garage sale at Ed Sucoff's house was cancelled by Jessica Cook. Sandy is scouting locations for the sale. It was decided that no matter where it was held an emphasis on advertising the event was necessary, including new neon pink signs and balloons.
Jessica Cook expressed interest in having a movie night at her home in March. The date is not finalized.
Not-A-Potluck is scheduled for Sunday, March 12th following the board meeting at Steve and Karen's house. The plan is to watch a Baba film, drive to the conservatory, and then to a coffee shop. A general email will be sent to the Baba community to inform them of the schedule for this event.
It was suggested that membership dues forms be sent along with the upcoming newsletter mailing. There was a brief bit of rigamarole regarding the letter that was mailed with the membership forms last year. No one claimed authorship of the letter. The issue was not resolved.
Finally, Rogier Gregoire made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Steve Cochrane seconded the motion, and the meeting ended. |
