MEHER BABA CENTER OF THE TWIN CITIES
BOARD MEETING - JULY 16, 2006
The July 16, 2006 board meeting was held at the home of Leah Johnston. Attending the meeting were Pat Cook, Sandy Schwanz, Bob Ochtrup, Rogier Gregoire, Sandra Self, DJ Johnston, Trevor Johnston, and Leah Johnston. Steve Cochrane and Karen Plante were absent due to a camping episode.
The Minutes from last month's board meeting were read by Rogier Gregoire. They were approved. After the minutes were approved, everyone thanked each other, round-robin, like the Waltons calling "good night" from their beds on the mountain in TV land. There is no accounting for the reason - it was spontaneous, like The Whim that started creation and it made us all laugh.
The Treasurer's Report was read and approved. It was noted that the interest from interest-bearing accounts has now been officially moved to the Legacy Fund.
Next, Pat stated his decision to cancel the reminder letter to our membership regarding dues since there are other financial issues on the floor right now, and the timing seemed wrong. He did mention that he will speak to people on an individual basis, as seemed appropriate. Rogier then expressed concern that Pat might knock on his door at 2:00 AM. We all laughed, but a couple of us got scared and wrote checks.
Fall Sahavas was discussed. Pat estimated the Sahavas expenses at $1000. However, Bob reminded us all of additional expenses that weren't calculated last year, and revised the estimate to $1350. This cost will deplete our available cash to approximately 1/2 its present amount. We talked about the possibility of subsidizing or increasing the cost. At this point, Rogier fell asleep in Leah's Ikea chair. As his head bobbed up and down against the backdrop of the Baba Library bookshelves, the rest of us decided on the final costs. They are as follows:
Full Conference - $150 per person (2 overnights, 5 meals) Original cost -$146
Single Day - $80 (2 meals - no overnight)
ACTION STEP: Bob will put a lunch/dinner check box on the registration form for the single day option.
ACTION STEP: Pat will call Dunrovin and find out how many private, double, or dorm-style rooms are available. This shouldn't affect the cost.
Naosherwan Nalavala is due to arrive in the Twin Cities at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 13. The plan is to bring him directly to Dunrovin. Due to the assumption that there will be no meal service at Dunrovin on Friday evening, the board decided to provide light refreshments at that time.
ACTION STEP: Pat will check on the meal situation for Friday night. Once we finalize the facts, we will create an action plan.
It was also decided that the Registration form must be sent out by August 25, 2006.
ACTION STEP: Pat will send a "Save-The-Date" email to our membership well in advance of the August deadline.
The Great Conversation series, scheduled for August 26, 2006 at 5:00 PM, at Summit Townhomes was briefly discussed. We decided to table the art auction for now due to collective sanskaric impressions of "busy-ness." Pat decided to add another action step to his load. As a result:
ACTION STEP: Pat will send an email announcing the Great Conversations Event.
The Krishna-Ratna-Tejas/Judy Stone Nunnely happy-trails party, scheduled for 6:30 on July 22nd was mentioned. We decided that Pat should take digital pictures and send them in email format to our departing friends. Leah volunteered to get a couple of cards for everyone to sign too.
A long ethical discussion then erupted over the role of suffering in our lives. It stemmed from DJ's dilemma about her cat's slow health decline and her role and responsibility as caregiver. The board meeting? We adjourned it and kept right on talking. |
