MEHER BABA CENTER OF THE TWIN CITIES
BOARD MEETING - JUNE 24, 2006
The June 24, 2006 board meeting was held at the home of Pat Cook and Sandy Schwanz. Attending the meeting were Pat Cook, Sandy Schwanz, Bob Ochtrup, Monica Ochtrup, Steve Cochrane, DJ Johnston, Leah Johnston, Trevor Johnston, and Frango. Rogier Gregoire, Sandra Self, and Karen Plante were absent.
The Minutes from last month's board meeting were read by Monica Ochtrup. A few of us had to wipe away tears because we were so moved by her grasp of the material. It isn't an exxageration to say that her vocal stylings restored our collective faith in humanity. The Minutes were approved.
The Treasurer's Report was read and approved. The membership/Twin Cities donations were up, but a lot of individuals from our local populace have not responded to the membership form sent with the last newsletter. As a result, Steve made a motion that Pat Cook draft a letter to our membership base reminding them that membership dues are welcome (in case some people just forgot about it due to life's busy flavor). Sandy seconded the motion. All approved with the exception of Leah. The motion was approved.
ACTION STEP: Pat will draft a reminder letter to send to members regarding membership dues.
The Legacy Fund, formerly the Endowment Fund, was discussed. We talked about re-investing the interest to keep the Fund growing. Steve suggested investing in Denver penny stocks. Pat mentioned naked short options. I think they were kidding. The conversation was saved by Sandy, who made a reasonable motion that all interest earned from interest-bearing accounts be allowed to accrue in the Marj Sucoff fund. DJ seconded the motion. All approved and the motion passed.
Great Conversations series was discussed. The event, featuring Rogier Gregoire as our guest speaker, and Steve Cochrane as our musical guest, was set for August 26, 2006 at Summit Townhomes party room in Burnsville. At this point, Steve interrupted the meeting to ask if anyone in the room had ever been bitten on the lower calf by a "square, white bunny of light." It happened to him at Interstate Park in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. No one else in attendance had ever experienced such a thing. Steve then requested that during the Great Conversations event he be allowed a short break after 5 songs to insure his ability to remain fresh. We all felt that when square, white bunnies of light start to attack your lower calf, it is essential to allow rest, so his request was granted.
ACTION STEP: DJ will secure DVD player and screen at Summit Townhomes for use during the event.
The event is structured as follows:
5:00 - 6:00 - potluck
6:00 - 7:00 - Rogier's talk
7:30 - 8:30 - Steve's musical stylings
8:30 - viewing of a DVD and arti.
9:00 - end of the evening.
A brief discussion about proposed art auction ensued. A live, silent
auction will be incorporated as part of the Great Conversations event.
ACTION STEP: Sandy will contact Jessica Cook regarding availability of items for purchase in the silent auction. A group of us will get together and decide pricing criteria and any other details before the event.
Going-Away-party for Krishna, Ratna, Tejas, and Judy Stone Nunnely will be held on Saturday, July 8 at Krishna and Ratna's home.
ACTION STEP: Pat will send an invitation via email to people. He will also confirm the time with Ratna.
Fall Sahavas was discussed. David Whetstone has agreed to play sitar for us on Saturday evening, October 14. A stipend of $200 has been approved to give to David as a gesture of appreciation.
ACTION STEP: Pat will check with Naosherwan regarding flight expenses. Pat and Bob will get together and figure out costs. They will also work on the registration form before the July meeting.
At this point, Frango left the room and wandered upstairs for a nap. This event inspired us all to adjourn the meeting. |
